A homeowner in Falmouth contacted us looking for a complete energy upgrade that would improve their home and provide greater peace of mind. They were interested in solar power, battery storage, and a new roof, but there was one problem standing in the way: two large trees casting significant shade across the roof. While Cape Cod electric bills can feel almost as predictable as summer traffic on Route 6, solar only works best when the sun can actually reach the panels. The homeowner also had their eye on a beautiful set of custom red shingles that would give the home a fresh new look while preparing it for decades of service. With winter approaching and power outages always a possibility during coastal storms, reliable backup power was also high on the priority list.
Because every property is different, we went beyond our usual satellite imagery and remote shade analysis tools. Using a solar pathfinder on-site, we carefully tracked the sun’s exposure throughout the year and confirmed that two large trees were significantly impacting the roof’s solar potential. Once the trees were removed, we installed a beautiful new roof featuring custom-ordered red shingles that instantly became one of the most eye-catching roofs on the street. We then designed a south-facing solar array positioned for maximum production in Cape Cod’s sunny conditions. As a retired U.S. serviceman, the homeowner especially appreciated that the panels were American assembled. To complete the project, we installed a battery storage system capable of keeping essential circuits running during outages. In fact, a storm tested the system just weeks after installation, and it performed exactly as intended. The entire project was completed before year’s end, right on schedule.
